Why Would Evangelists Drive People Away?

This morning, I read a post by an Evangelist apologizing for the method in which he had tried to reach atheists in a YouTube he'd created titled "Atheism is Absurd".  Have you noticed a growing trend of condemnation in the teachings of many evangelists?
Perhaps you've noticed a trend with many preachers using the phrase

"I'm not a Q-tip preacher, here to tickle your ears." 

Where on earth do you find any of this in the teachings of Christ? This post contains my personal reflections on how some evangelists drive more people away from God rather than bring people to God, and scriptures that can help us guard against the spirit of pride that may lie behind this problem.
